Everything on one visit
Hoists, slings, profiling beds, commodes, wheelchairs and evac chairs, all serviced or inspected in the same visit, whatever the make.
Care homes
Planned maintenance, fast repairs and new equipment for your beds, hoists, mattresses, chairs and commodes, with one contract, one point of contact and records that stand up to a CQC inspection.
Built for care homes
Care home managers already have enough on their plate. We take equipment compliance off it.
Hoists, slings, profiling beds, commodes, wheelchairs and evac chairs, all serviced or inspected in the same visit, whatever the make.
Every item barcoded, with a bespoke electronic report after each visit, giving you a clear maintenance history when an inspector asks.
Visits scheduled around your residents' routines, with engineers who are DBS-checked, uniformed and carry ID.
Your residents depend on their equipment every hour of the day: a profiling bed that moves when it should, a hoist that's ready for the next transfer, a mattress that's protecting their skin. Shepherd keeps all of it working, so your staff can get on with caring.
We put every item on a planned preventive maintenance (PPM) schedule, quarterly, six-monthly or annually, whatever suits each piece of equipment. Our engineers service beds, hoists, mattresses, chairs and commodes from every major manufacturer on the same visit, and carry out the six-monthly LOLER examinations for your hoists and slings at the same time. Planned visits mean fewer breakdowns, fewer emergency call-outs and less disruption for residents.
A broken bed or hoist can upset a whole unit. Our engineers carry an extensive range of spare parts to fix most faults on the first visit, and our team can often talk your staff through first-level fault finding over the phone before an engineer arrives.
When a bed or hoist reaches the end of its life, or a new resident needs something different, we can supply it: profiling beds, mattresses, mobile hoists, ceiling track hoists fitted by our own engineers, commodes and shower chairs. Everything we supply goes straight onto your maintenance schedule.
Regulation 15 requires equipment to be properly maintained, and Regulation 12 requires providers to make sure equipment is safe for its purpose. Every item is barcoded on our own system, and after each visit you can log in and download a bespoke electronic report for every asset, ready when an inspector asks.

Equipment is only one part of keeping a care home safe and running. Shepherd is a partner in CareGuard, a group of independent specialist companies covering care equipment, security, refrigeration, heating and electrical work. Your home can use CareGuard as one point of contact for all of it, instead of finding and managing a separate contractor for every trade, while each job is still carried out by a specialist.

Not sure what you've got or when it was last serviced? Our free on-site equipment audit records every item by type, location and condition, checks your current service dates and gives you a written report, including where you could save against your current supplier. We cover care homes across Portsmouth, Southampton, Hampshire, West Sussex and Dorset, with nationwide contracts for care groups.

Under Regulation 15 of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014, equipment must be suitable, properly used and properly maintained. In practice, inspectors look for current LOLER reports for hoists and slings and a servicing record for other equipment.
No. There's no minimum asset count. We look after single homes as well as large care groups, and every client gets the same personal service.
CareGuard is a partnership of independent specialist companies, including Shepherd, covering care equipment, security, refrigeration, heating and electrical work. It gives care homes one trusted group to call for all of these, instead of managing a separate contractor for each.
Yes. We start with a free survey to record your equipment and when it was last inspected, then schedule visits so nothing falls out of date during the switch.
